What is Gold Plated or Gold Filled?

Gold plate is when the base metal (normally brass or steel) has a very fine layer of gold applied to it. As this is done by a cold press process, the effect is not so hard wearing as either gold fill or vermeil.

Gold-filled jewelry is composed of a solid layer of gold, which must constitute at least 5% of the item's total weight, mechanically bonded to sterling silver or a base metal.

I have sensitive skin, is this jewelry safe?

All our pieces are nickel and lead free, we use zinc instead of nickel in our sterling silver. Earrings are either 925 sterling silver or surgical steel. For gold earring backs we plate the 925 sterling silver or surgical steel in 14K yellow gold. How do I care for my new piece of jewelry?

Rebecca jewelry is very delicate and needs to be taken care of. If you own a piece of our vintage lace here are a few tips for care: You can use a warm iron to help with any wrinkles or bends that may occur. If you notice a small string that is hanging off your piece clip the string being sure not to cut the lace. If you notice your lace is starting to fray use a small bit of clear nail polish to keep those loose ends secure. Store either flat or hanging from your jewelry display. Our pieces are works of art and love to be admired! If you own a metal piece of jewelry from Rebecca these designs don't need much care but we do use very fine chain that can with stand some daily wear but to ensure your piece lasts a life time take care not to yank on the chain. Store either in the clear plastic jewelry bag we mailed the piece in or in your jewelry box. A few other things to consider for all our pieces:

- Do not shower or sleep in your Rebecca Jewelry.

- For delicate rings, please take off when doing housework.

- Clean your pieces occasionally and they will love you that much more. For plated and filled materials, a light wipe with a polishing cloth works wonders. If your item gets wet rather than towel drying which risks flaking off the plating, give them a gentle breeze down with a hairdryer.

- Each piece is hand-crafted and therefore delicate. Please use appropriate care to enjoy our jewelry for a long time!.

- Avoid spraying perfume directly on jewelry. Perfume contains strong chemicals which may cause a reaction with the plating, causing it to tarnish and possibly break as a result of misusage.

Can I return or exchange items?

We do allow returns, you have 5 days to post mark the item to return it. If you do decide to return the item it must be in original condition and you must contact us so we know that you've changed your mind. If for some reason your item arrived damaged, etc. please contact us right away and we will mail out a new piece. If you just want to exchange the item you have 5 days to mail the piece back in (in it's original condition). For custom designs we unfortunately can not offer a refund or exchange.
